As a supplement to our <a href="~/Publications/Form-I-9-Gets-a-Makeover-–-Use-Current-Version-Unt" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Form I-9 E-alert</a> sent on September 19, a news story about the indictment of two agribusiness owners recently appeared in <em>The Bay City Times</em>. The report demonstrates that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan has been aggressively targeting agribusinesses for allegedly hiring unauthorized immigrants. This reinforces the importance of properly completing Form I-9 for all newly hired employees to verify their identity and authorization to work in the United States.&nbsp;

A new Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) is scheduled to be published by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) by November&nbsp;22, 2016. Employers may continue to use the current Form I-9 (revision date of 03/08/2013 N) until January&nbsp;21, 2017. After January&nbsp;21, 2017, the new form must be used.&nbsp;You can find information on the USCIS website at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">I-9 Central</a>.&nbsp;
